Dendritic agate is a type of chalcedony from the agate stone family, along with rare Botswana agate, fire agate, and blue lace agate, among others! While most dendritic agates have a milky body tone, they can also appear translucent to opaque. The milky base creates a beautiful contrast between the dark brown to black inclusions.
Sodalite is a popular stone for jewelry because it is both abundant and easy to carve. Sodalite is often mistaken for Lapis Lazuli, because of its rich blue tone. As early as 2500 B.C., Sodalite was being traded by the Caral people of Peru, as well as by the indigenous people of Tiwanaku in modern-day Bolivia.
Sodalite gets its name from the rich sodium content within the stone. It gained popularity as an ornamental stone in 1891 when deposits were found in Ontario, Canada. Because these deposits were discovered at the same time as a visit from the royal family, in Canada Sodalite is sometimes referred to as Princess Blue.
